Grace Isn’t Sure About Her New Kitchen

For Grace’s birthday we decided to buy her a play kitchen.  It seems like one of those classic toys that would last through out all of our children and get hours worth of play.

First it took hours to put together.

It didn’t help that we had to start over not once, but TWICE because I messed up the bottom piece.  The directions could have been a little more clear.   😉

I was hoping that we would  have it all set up and waiting for Grace when she woke up from her nap.  However, her way-too-short nap time combined with the 13 pages of instructions that came along with the kitchen resulted in her seeing it before then.  I wish you could have seen the look on her face when I explained to her what it was.  She was so happy.

But then…

After it was finally finished Grace seemed unimpressed.

“Grace, do you like your kitchen?”

“Um, no kitchen.”

“What?  Grace, do you like your kitchen?”

“No kitchen.  Outside?”

Ughhh…  Not exactly what we were hoping for.  Thankfully, she does seem to truly like her kitchen.  She has been playing with it a lot and I still see hope of us getting our money’s worth out of it.

This nearly $190 wooden kitchen made by KidKraft was on sale for $50 off.  Plus I had $75 in Amazon gift cards that I got through Swagbucks.  A brand new $190 wooden kitchen for only $65??  Yes, I’ll take that deal!

I can honestly say that we probably wouldn’t have gotten this kitchen if it hadn’t been for those gift cards I got from Swagbucks.  If you’ve never heard of Swagbucks here is the deal:

Swagbucks is an online search engine and every time you search for something you have the chance to win points that they call swag bucks.  I tend to win 7-12 swag bucks for every 4 searches that I do.  Those swag bucks can then be redeemed in their online store.  They have all kinds of things, but I usually stick with getting gift cards.

When I was pregnant with Grace I cashed in a bunch of my swag bucks for Target gift cards and bought $180 worth of maternity clothes.  AWESOME!

If you sign up for Swagbucks right now, you can use the promotional code BIGTIMEBUCKS to add 100 swag bucks added to your account instantly.  This code will be good until 11:59 PM (Pacific Time) on Monday, October 3, 2011.

Plus on Monday, Swagbucks is giving out seven different swag codes worth a total of 60 swag bucks.  The first one will be given out on Twitter at 6:00 AM (Pacific Time).

Click here to sign up for Swagbucks today!  You won’t regret it.

Today when I asked Grace is she liked her kitchen, this is what I got…

Yippee!!

Have you ever received a less-than-desired reaction to a special gift?

  1. I signed up with Swagbucks but there was no place to put BIGTIMEBUCKS to earn the extra swagbucks 🙁

    1. When you registered there should have filled out the first page with your name, email & password. Then on the second page the promotional code should have gone in the “Swag Code” box located just above the captcha security box. I’m sorry you didn’t notice that the first time! Perhaps you could register again under a different email address. Here is the link to register: Sign Up for Swagbucks

        1. I’m sorry, Elizabeth. I just “signed up” to test it out and it worked for me. I’m not sure if it is case sensitive or not. Or perhaps you had a space before the word. I’ve had that problem before when I copied & pasted swag codes. That little space gets in there and it won’t work. I would suggest signing up again.

  2. Get her some play food to go with it and some pots and pans if you haven’t already! My Grace plays with her kitchen (especially the play food) all the time! Hopefully she grows to love it more!

    1. Leah, we have a few things for her and she is playing with it more. We are planning on getting her more things for Christmas. I’m trying to decide between the Melissa & Doug wooden food and the food you can cut.

      1. Just start saving some of your boxes from foods and washed out plastics. I have used empty juice bottles with purple craft paint on the inside and taped them shut, empty and taped up cereal boxes, macaroni boxes, etc. Plus, you can make some cool stuff out of felt. Pancakes with butter slabs on, toast, fried eggs, etc. 🙂 Have fun!

  3. With Gabe it’s always a hit or miss. We’ve had some major misses. We got him a bike for Christmas one year that he has still never ridden because he freaks out on it. This year we got him an awesome scooter instead… that worked.

  4. Love the kitchen! I fell in love with the play kitchen from Pottery Barn kids, and as you might have guessed it’s WAY overpriced. I love the retro/50’s-look. I’m going to have to look at more of them. Thanks for sharing!
