Guess What I’ve Been Baking!

Yep, I’ve got a bun in this oven!!  My husband and I are expecting our 2nd child!

Here are the details:

How far along are you?  I am 3 months pregnant.  The baby is due the end of April 2012.

How did you find out?  When I was pregnant with Grace I took 3 pregnancy tests (in 1 month) before one came back positive.  This time it only took 1 test.  I took the test first thing in the morning and told Nate that evening.  The picture above is how I told him.  I drew that on my stomach and then told Nate to look at the strange mark I had on my stomach.  🙂

Are you showing yet?  Yes.  Yes.  Yes.  I feel huge and it is a little embarrassing.  I know that women show faster the second time around, but knowing and liking are to very different things!

Have you had an ultrasound?  No, but yesterday we were able to hear the baby’s heart beat for the first time.  It was such a relief to hear that sound!

How have you been feeling?  Tired.  Drained.  Flat out EXHAUSTED!  Thankfully, that has gotten a lot better.  I’m able to make it through a day now without a nap.  Trust me, that is a major accomplishment.  I’ve also been very nauseous.  I’ve only thrown up twice, but I often find myself leaning over the sink while making supper.

Will you find out the gender of the baby?  Nate and I did not find out with Grace.  I loved it!  We probably won’t find out this time either.

Have you told Grace?  Yes, but there is no way she understands.  How could she???  Grace likes to rub my belly and the other day she tried to put her pacifier in my belly button to share with the baby.  So stinkin’ cute!

And because everyone wants to know, but only the bravest actually ask…  Were you trying to get pregnant or was this a surprise?  Nate and I were trying.  Although I don’t feel 100% ready, I don’t think you ever truly are 100% ready.  The timing is good.  Grace will be 2.5 years old.  It is time and we are very happy.

  1. I’m fairly new to your blog. Congrats and I will keep reading. I have 4 kids so I know what you’re going through. Don’t worry, you will survive, though the tiredness never goes away!

  2. ACK!!!!! I squealed and jumped – a little (my big preggy belly doesn’t allow too much jumping!). I am so excited for you! Praise God! Woohoo! Now I’m REALLY sad I can’t make it to Relevant to hug your neck!

  3. Congratulations, sweetheart! Can’t wait to follow you through this amazing journey! All my love & prayers to you & your family!

    1. Ben, I certainly appreciate your prayers! You can pray for good health (for everyone!) and for a smooth transition with Grace when we bring the baby home. Thanks!

  4. I’m thrilled!! Grace is going to be the gosh-darned cutest big sister!! We love you guys and are praying for a healthy pregnancy and perfect little baby!!

  5. Congrats! Is this why you found Joanna so cute-cause you are about all things baby right now? 🙂 You are the third person I know to announce pregnancy this week. With each one I keep wondering if I will end up being next…..

    1. Amy, I am more attentive to babies these days, but… Joanna is so stinkin’ cute REGARDLESS of any pregnancy news! I was also really struck by her because of how little and quiet she was. I got a lot of comments like that from people about Grace and that was my first chance to really see what people were seeing.

    1. I totally agree about the Day in the Life link-up, but I think I’m going to make it an annual thing happening each January. It is a boring time of year for picture taking, but that is why I like it. 🙂 It gives us something to do when we’re getting sick of being stuck in the house.

  6. fun fun! 🙂 happy you’re happy. And Grace doesn’t understand everything but she will be a great big sister (as my big girl is) esp if she is already offering the baby her pacifier through your belly button 😉 …it’s funny b/c my firstborn was only 6months when I first was pregnant again and I thought she wouldn’t really notice what was going on and yet by 12 mos (when my belly was bigger, but she wasn’t really talking) she too had the idea to offer the baby some of her food by shoving it to my bellybutton! 🙂 I thought it was quite cute and moreso was impressed with how much she actually HAD understood already. We did a homebirth for number two and though it wasn’t planned, she ended up being right by my side and still (at this point) really wants to be midwife when she grows up.
I would never have been able to wait 3 months to tell everyone! 🙂 have a good day.

    1. Jessica, you are probably right that Grace will grasp this whole thing more than I think. I sometimes have a hard time wrapping my brain around the fact that there is a BABY INSIDE ME!! I can’t fathom how that would make sense to Grace. 🙂

I would love to hear your birth stories sometime!

  7. Rebekah how EXCITING! I am so happy for you & your family! I have the “baby bug” but can’t convince my hubby! I know about 10 pregnant ladies right now! Can’t wait to read about your experience this time!

    1. Thanks, Rachel. This blog was “born” when Grace was 3 months old. So it will be fun to write about pregnancy things since I’ve never done it before!

  8. I came over here after your article on Money Saving Mom. I’m expecting our second child as well. We’re due in May. I’m glad there is someone else out there who understands the challenge of being pregnant with a toddler! Of course, I have severely awful pregnancies (In a quiz I recently took about “unusual pregnancy symptoms”, I had experienced 24/25 :). And the morning sickness…mine tends to last all 9 months. I’m excited for you and and your family! Have fun at the conference! God Bless, Sara

    1. Thank you for stopping by, Sara! That is just crazy about your pregnancies and that quiz. I certainly hope that this one treats you a little better.
