Introducing Frugal Photo Friday

Frugal Photo Friday

I’m pretty frugal.  Some of the ways that I save money might be impressive.  Some ways might be a little extreme, but a lot of the ways I save money seem pretty normal and boring to me.  Yet shouldn’t those things be celebrated, too?

It is time to start celebrating simple savings!

Welcome to Frugal Photo Friday!  For the next month I am partnering with Crystal, from MoneySavingMom.com, and we will be sharing pictures of simple ways that we save money.  We would like you to join us!

How it will work:

Each Friday in October Crystal and I will share pictures on our blogs that demonstrate ways that we save money.  At the end of our posts we’ll have a link-up where you can share a link to your own blog post.  Your Frugal Photo Friday post should include one or more photographs along with a brief caption or story that explains how you saved money.

We will have themes for each Friday.  Feel free to share photos that fit either of the themes for that week.

Oct. 5 – Kids, Bath & Beauty
Oct. 12 – Food & Fun
Oct. 19 – Home & Decor
Oct. 26 – Anything Goes!

The Details:

  • No blog?  You can also share your pictures on Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #FrugalPhotoFriday.
  • Frugal Photo Friday posts will go live on Friday mornings and the link-up will stay open until Sunday night at 11:59 PM.
  • You will only need to share your link on one of our blogs and it will automatically be displayed on both blogs.
  • Please link directly to your Frugal Photo Friday post and not to your homepage.
  • Feel free to grab the Frugal Photo Friday button to use in your post.
  • Please include a link back to Money Saving Mom or Simply Rebekah in your post so others can be encouraged by all the savings.
  • There is no time limit on your savings.  We want to see things that saved you money this week, last month, last year, or beyond!

To kick things off, Crystal and I are going to share some frugal photos today.

Frugal Photo Friday - Reusing Gift Wrap

This week I went to a birthday party and raided my stash of gift wrapping supplies.  I have an obsession with saving gift wrap.  Did you know that you can iron tissue paper???

Saving gift wrap isn’t a huge way of saving, but I really value the time I save by not needing to pick up supplies at the store.

Head over to Money Saving Mom to see the savings that Crystal is sharing today.

Crystal and I are looking forward to celebrating frugal living and being encouraged by other people’s savings.  We hope you are too!

  1. I love this idea!!!! Will try to send photos. I also do the saving the gift wraps, and it does save me money. Once I didn’t have any bag and needed one to go to a party, I had to buy one for almost $5!!!!!! And it didn’t even include the tissue paper. So now, I save the bags, boxes and tissue paper! Even the gift wrap paper, if my daughter doesn’t break it too much I save it, but I use it for doing crafts with her (my daughter). 🙂

    1. What kinds of crafts do you use the gift wrap for? Wait… maybe you shouldn’t tell me. My husband will probably fall over if I tell him I want to start saving gift wrap now!!! (But seriously… tell me. hehe)

I look forward to seeing your Frugal Photo Friday pictures this week!!

  2. Love this idea! 🙂 And NO, I didn’t know you can iron tissue paper. Oh my goodness, that’s awesome. I will no longer throw away gift bags or paper!! Now…where to store it all?

    1. I have a large bin that I use for all my gift bags. I even have them organized by theme: baby, christmas, wedding, birthday, general. Each theme is organized by size. It is a bit ridiculous. Look luck finding a storage spot for your bags! 🙂

  3. After throwing a birthday party for one of my kids, I carefully gather the gift bags and tissue paper and store them in a bin in the basement. With each birthday party, I head to the bin to get a gift bag and tissue paper. Next to that bin is a bin full of toys I purchased for 75% off at Target when their toys go on clearance! With 10 parties in the past 5 weeks, I’ve saved 75% on gifts and the wrapping has been free. Instead of spending $200 on those 10 parties, I’ve spend $25 or $30. It definitely adds up.

    1. Way to go! Saving gift wrap is something I’m good at (obviously). Buying gifts ahead of time is NOT. Do you have any tips for getting started with that? How do you know what ages or genders to buy for? Are you buying for family or for your children’s friends?

  4. I re-iron tissue paper all the time! We use it for all sorts of things, including making some awesome tissue paper flowers from the Martha Stewart site (there are several different tutorials over there).

    1. Ooooohhh! That is a good idea!! I try to decorate the house for birthday parties around here, but I hate spending a bunch of money. I should take advantage of all my tissue paper!

    1. It would be great to have you join in! The last week we have an “Anything Goes” theme. I’m sure you can come up with something great. Maybe a wonderful homemade facial/body scrub? 🙂

  5. I think that this is one of the BEST ways to save money! Not only is gift wrap, bags, tissue expensive, it is such a waste to use only once. I save all of the tissue from shoe boxes, retail outlets, such as Victoria’s Secret, etc and use in gifts but I also save all the Comics I can get my hands on! These all make frugal wrappings and I hate when I have to buy last minute wrapping, it is at least $10 by the time I get a card, tissue and bag/paper box, etc.!

    1. Stephanie, my gift wrap collection is insane right now. I have so much! My family all know that I love to resuse things so now they usually try to give BACK the gift bag or tissue paper that I use for their gifts. I’m thankful to recycle the stuff, but this huge collection is never going to go down if they keep giving it all BACK! Haha!
