Amber Teething Necklace: What is it?
And Does it Really Work?!?

Amber Teething Necklace: What is it? And does it really work?!?

This post and giveaway is sponsored by Spark of Amber.

What is an amber teething necklace anyway?  I see them all over my Instagram feed.  It seems like every crunchy mama I know has a Baltic amber necklace around their baby’s neck, but what is it???

Baltic Amber contains a naturally occurring anti-inflammatory, which can be absorbed through the skin.  Simply wearing the necklace can help ease teething pain and many other ailments.  That might sound like a hoax, but the world’s first medicine all came from plants and minerals.  Why wouldn’t it still work today?

Is the baby suppose to chew on it?  Nope.  Just wear the necklace.  It isn’t made to go in the mouth.  Noah wears his all the time, but I’ve only seen him up it in his mouth once and rarely does he ever play with it.  Thankfully, there is a knot between each bead so if the necklace would break only one small bead would come off.

Does wearing a teething necklace really help?  Spark of Amber sent me a necklace to try with Noah.  I got it at the perfect time.  He was on the verge of getting three molars.  During the entire time he was working on those three molars, I only gave him Tylenol once.  I think that is pretty amazing.

Just in case you think I’m saying this just because I was given an amber teething necklace for free (which I am not!), here is another testimony from a friend of mine who paid for a necklace from Spark of Amber:

When Cora (18 months old) got her top molars it was terrible.  We gave her Tylenol once or twice a day for a week.  She was miserable.  The Tylenol helped, but I felt bad about giving it to her all the time.  I ordered a necklace after talking to Rebekah about Noah’s necklace.

Cora has been wearing her teething necklace for almost two weeks.  She got two teeth on the bottom and two bottom molars are coming.  She has been so much better.  I haven’t been giving her Tylenol at all.  You can still tell that she is a little uncomfortable, but oh my goodness…  it is so much better.  I would definitely say it is working.  I think it has made a big difference.

I was really kind of skeptical.  But man oh man…  It is really working with Cora. – Emily

Baltic Amber Teething Necklace Options

Spark of Amber has several different styles of teething necklaces to choose from.  I decided to go with one of their “raw” necklaces (not pictured above).  There is a slightly higher concentration of the naturally occurring anti-inflammatory in the “raw” unpolished beads.  It was a tough decision, but I decided to go with the most effective necklace rather than a darker color that might have been more masculine.

Is it weird to have a necklace on my little boy?  Many people have commented about him wearing it, but as soon as I explain what it is they all have given me a very positive response.  I thought my husband might not be into it, but he doesn’t mind.  I think it actually looks really cute with the right kind of shirt.

Is it worth the money?  I was given my necklace for free to review, but I would definitely buy one.  Spark of Amber sells them for $18.99 with free shipping.  It costs more than a bottle of Tylenol, but it is all natural!

  1. I would pick the raw teething necklace also! I’ve heard many many things about these! my daughter is 8 months old and just got her bottom two teeth in so this would be amazing to try! I hope I win!

  2. I know many people with them, but I’ve always been skeptical about them. I asked my youngest’s doctor and she didn’t really know anything about them, but when I explained what I knew, she was hesitant about them. I would like to give it a shot though, so if we won, I would choose the BALTIC AMBER BABY TEETHING CALMING ROUND BEADED NECKLACE — “THE MIDNIGHT”.

  3. I like the firefly color necklace best, but I think I like the raw necklaces better for teeting pain. So not sure exactly what i’d choose! 🙂

  4. I would pick the raw teething necklace!! Would be an excellent Christmas present for my little man (5 weeks old now :))

  11. Hello there I am so thrilled I found your site, I really found you by mistake, while I was researching on Yahoo for something else, Nonetheless I am here now and would just like to say thanks for a fantastic post
and a all round interesting blog (I also love the theme/design),

saved it and also added your RSS feeds, so when I have time I will be
back to read a lot more, Please do keep up the excellent work.

  12. Hey– I know you can choose whether or not to post this so this is just for your eyes. It is just a spelling error in your writing. You wrote “hire concentration” when it ought to be “higher concentration”. They are homonyms, but one is only used in reference to getting a job and the other refers to more, larger, or taller. If this message irks you, I apologize. The spelling may not matter to you…but then again it might. Your blog is lovely and I figured someone who created an otherwise meticulous site would want to know.
    Totally getting the beads, btw.
    Cheers

    1. Belinda, thank you for the heads up about my typo. I certainly know the difference between “higher” and “hire.” I can’t believe I didn’t catch the error myself! Thank you for letting me know. I hope the necklace works well for you!

However, these necklaces are intended to be used during teething. So you can use them on your baby whenever you feel comfortable. It is up to each parent to make a wise choice. The necklaces also have health benefits for all ages. I’m wearing an adult version as I type this!

  13. We Could not live life without the necklace …i thought the daycare broke hers and I had another one overnighted to me…I forund the first one later and she has had it on 18 months and no teething problems at all and her teeth are very straight and pretty;)
