I am so thankful for each of you that answered my reader survey. The results were really interesting, so let’s dig in and talk about it.
To all the brand new blog subscribers: I am happy to have you here! Many of you joined for The Just Clean Something Challenge. Please excuse me as we do a bit of housekeeping here and chat about the survey. Of course you are welcome to take the survey if you would like to chime in. Click here for the survey.
Talk to me about you!
98% female – no shock there!
41% 30-39 years old
22% 40-49 years old
14% 20-29 years old
90% have children
36% have at least 1 child age 4-6
35% have at least 1 child age 3-6
27% have at least 1 child age 18 or older
26% have at least 1 child age 7-10
15% have a child less than 1 year old
I wasn’t surprised at all by the fact that the vast majority of people reading the blog are female. No shocker there.
I was a bit surprised to find out that many of you are older than I expected. Before taking the survey I would have guessed that most of you were in your 30s (which is true) and the second most popular age group was the 20s, but that isn’t the case. More of you are in your 40s and there were also many people in their 50s, 60s, and beyond.
Along with the audience being older, I was also surprised by how many of you have grown children.
Talk to me about Simply Rebekah!
How long have you been reading?
35% – 6 months or less
34% – 1-2 years
18% – 3-5 years
My blog has continued to grow more and more each year, so it makes sense that many of you are new readers. I messed up when I wrote this question, because I don’t know what the people were suppose to mark if they had been reading for 9 months! Oops.
Regardless of how long you have been reading, it meant so much to me that you took the time to invest in my blog by filling out the survey. Thanks again!
Which blog posts do you enjoy the most?
#1 – Frugal Living & Money Saving Tips
#2 – Simple Recipes
#3 – Personal Stories & Family Updates
#4 – Parenthood
#5 – Freezer Friendly Recipes
#6 – Faith
#7 – Housekeeping Before & After Photos
These results were great news for me! I’m frugal to the core, so I am happy to continue to write about these things. I’m not too surprised to see recipes high on the list since everyone has to eat.
It was so touching to see personal stories and family updates on the list. Sometimes I fear that readers just want the tips and don’t care about my family as much. Thank you for caring about us!
I was really surprised to see that so many people selected faith. I rarely write about my faith, but it is nice to know that you would be open to hearing about it more.
It was also surprising to see that my housekeeping posts are some of the most popular. I’ll have to write more of those!
Which blog posts do you usually skip?
#1 – Breastfeeding with Excess Lipase
#2 – Breastfeeding in General
#3 – Pregnancy
#4 – Sorta Awesome Recaps
#5 – Videos
#6 – Giveaways
I am not surprised that breastfeeding and pregnancy posts are at the top of this list. Those seasons of life come and go very quickly. When you aren’t in that season, the interest level goes down fast. I get that.
I was disappointed to see videos so high on this list. I’ve been trying to make videos more often in 2015. I really enjoy making them, but it doesn’t make sense to make them if people don’t want to watch them. I have been experimenting with Periscope (a live broadcasting social media app) and perhaps I should put my video creating energy there instead. You can find me on by searching for SimplyRebekah or Rebekah Hoffer.
How often would you like Rebekah to publish new blog posts?
Over 60% of you said you were happy with 1 blog post a week, which is my current schedule.
You guys blew me away with this question. Many of you left comments saying that more would be great, but that I should only post when I have the time. Balancing the blog and my family life has been difficult in the past, but I have tried hard to relax about my posting schedule more this year. I appreciate you accepting that. Thank you!
Talk to me about the Sorta Awesome Podcast!
This past spring I helped launch the Sorta Awesome podcast as a regular co-host. This weekly podcast is hosted by Megan Tietz and I join her once a month to share my “awesome of the week,” answer listener questions, and talk about all the awesome things in life.
I am shocked at how many of you said that you were hearing about the podcast for the very first time in the survey. I have been writing a post each month to give a teaser about my episode and sharing it on Facebook. Clearly those posts aren’t working!
From now on, I will be sharing my teasers about my episodes in my Life In Between newsletters instead of in a blog post. Make sure you subscribe to the newsletter (and read it!) to be sure you don’t miss any of my episodes with Megan.
I really was blown away by the comments you guys left for me in the survey, and recently several of you have reached out to my simply to encourage me. I am deeply touched each time that happens. It means so much to me and always boosts my spirits.
I feel like I’ve said “thank you” again and again in this post, but it is honestly how I feel. You guys are just the best.
Did any of the survey results surprise you?
