A Day in the Life of… 2018

Every year on January 18th I take one picture every hour from the moment I wake up until I go to bed that night. I end up taking pictures of the ordinary – supper prep, cranky kids, trips the library, a cup of coffee, my computer screen.

These ordinary pictures are actually quite extraordinary. They are my everyday. They are my here and my now. They are a day in my life.

This year is special because it is my first year with Isaac. Last year’s “A Day in the Life” was on my due date! Isaac was born a week later. I am thankful to have Isaac with us this year to participate in the fun.

A Day in the Life of Rebekah – January 18, 2018

10:00 AM – I didn’t realize today was my annual photo project day until the nurse casually mentioned the date while filling out paperwork.

I didn’t miss much this morning. Grace went to school (2nd grade), and then I made a quick trip to the doctor to finalize my clearances for the school.

11:00 AM – Filling Noah’s love tank with some LEGO building.

12:00 PM – It is almost time to drop him off for afternoon kindergarten. Noah takes his hair very seriously. I love it.

1:00 PM – Ahh. The joy of a quiet lunch in my favorite chair. Grace and Noah are at school. Isaac is napping. Mama is indulging in leftovers (cheesy chicken & wild rice casserole), Instagram, and silence.

2:00 PM – Isaac’s 1st birthday party is in 2 days. Right now I’m making lists of all the things that need to be done. My sticky-notes on the cabinet method works well for me when I’m feeling overwhelmed. Having the obnoxious papers front and center keeps me focused and on task.

3:00 PM – Isaac’s carseat naps have changed my life.

4:00 PM – Noah is home from school. Grace is playing at a friend’s house. Isaac is having a post-nap “snack.”

5:00 PM – I just pulled an elastic hair tie and shriveled pea out of Isaac’s mouth. What a little stinker!

6:00 PM – Tonight’s supper was made possible by the Pizza Hut book-it program.

7:00 PM – Unloading the dishwasher. All day. Every day.

8:00 PM – Bathing, brushing, and coloring. Nate’s biggest fundraiser of the year is tonight. (He is the CEO of a nonprofit.) For several reasons I decided to stay home this year. I don’t know what possessed me to tackle bath/showers at the end of a day of solo parenting.

9:00 PM – The kids are all sleeping, and I’m doing some birthday party prep.

10:00 PM – I am slowly cutting out little Isaac faces and watching Party of Five on Netflix. I am quickly losing steam, and soon will head to bed.

Take a peek back in time!

Thank you for sharing a day in my life!
