First Birthday Highlights!
The Cake: I ordered a chocolate cake with peanut butter icing. The bakery gave us a free “finger cake” for little Grace to dig into. I love how the cakes turned out and so did Grace! She started out picking off the little dots around the edge of the cake. Then she stopped eating and just played with it. I was impressed with how clean she ended up being!
The Decorations: The theme was simply the colors red, yellow, green & blue. I had solid colored paper plates, napkins, cups and silverware in those colors. Plus I had balloons around the house that were tied down with Grace’s plastic nesting cups. It was simple yet classic.
The Guests: We decided to only invite family. We still ended up with a full house! We had 13 adults, 4 kids and 2 babies! It was great to be able to have the room to host all those people! Praise God for our new house!!
The Gifts: Grace was certainly blessed with some great gifts! Nate & I decided to get her some classic ABC blocks. I spent a long time looking for the perfect blocks for her. After the party was all cleaned up we got the blocks out and Grace loved them! Honestly, I got a little teary watching her.
The Girl: She was certainly clingy and seemed to only want Mom or Dad at times, but honestly I think she loved having everyone there. She was as adorable as ever and definitely loved. She was one! And she is our number one!
We had a blast at her birthday party. She is so adorable!
We enjoyed watching her open all of her gifts, she didn’t need any help opening any of them. We loved watching her reaction to the opened gifts, that was cute. And watching Grace with her own birthday cake was priceless. We are so blessed to have you in our family Grace. Aunt Christy loves you VERY much. Don’t grow up too fast, okay.
P.S. Grace, you are so lucky to have such a loving mommy and daddy, they are doing such a good job with you. You are the world to them!
Beautiful family pictures. Loved the little-girl pigtails, so cute! Grace is full of personality & love.
Oh my word Rebekah, she looks so big. I guess I haven’t seen recent pics. I keep seeing pictures of her when she was little <3
On a side note, I think it’s really cute that she dug into the cake. Liam held his hands up in the air like the cake was toxic or something and woudn’t touch it. I hope he doesn’t get dirty OCD from me.
SO FUN to find your blog via “MSavMom” today!!
I’ve been all over your site this a.m., and it sure is delightful getting to learn things about your precious family!!
Since your parenting style seems to be so much like ours—and you guys love Jesus, too! (I even see one of our books in the picture, above)—I’m wanting to ask for your advice, please:
—I’d really consider you a reliable source for finding toys that are safe, very appealing to wee ones, and affordable…..we’ve had real trouble finding blocks that fit those criteria. May I ask what kind you guys settled on?
—Also: we’re befuddled about what to get for our little girl’s 2nd birthday….what suggestions might you have?
—It seems as if God has made you really levelheaded, gave you a great sense of humor and style, good sense about material resources, a fantastic ability to research and learn, and much more…..were you homeschooled? (We’re gonna homeschool.)
Thank you so much for your time. I’m a new “Simply Rebekah” fan now!
You are so sweet!
1) I think we went with Uncle Goose blocks. They were NOT the cheapest option, but I figured they would last through all of our children. Plus, I wanted to have a painted block that I could feel ok about infants putting in their mouths. So that is what we went with. I love them. They have 4 sets of the ABCs, animals and numbers on them.
2) I went with a kitchen, but I see that isn’t an option for you. If you are short on space then maybe you could go with something that will get used up, like art supplies.
3) I was not homeschooled.
Thank you for stopping by through MSM and I look forward to hearing from you again!
Thanks so much….after hearing from a grandma yesterday that the play kitchen her daughters played with is still a huge hit with her granddaughters–one of whom is 9!– we broke down and started searching for one on Craigslist.
Our 3-year-old son and our daughter LOVE both of the play kitchens at Church, so we’re just gonna try and squeeze one in our home. 🙂
Thank you again for your help….sure do appreciate your taking the time!
