My Love Story: The Window {chapter 1}
One thing that I hardly ever talk about on Simply Rebekah is what my life was like before blogging. Mostly I share pictures, tips, or stories from my current everyday life and you rarely hear me talking about my past. Today I’m going to try something new.
Over the next several weeks I will be sharing My Love Story. Spolier Alert!!! Yesterday Nate and I celebrated our 8th wedding anniversary. Obviously I married the guy. I hope you enjoy the journey despite knowing the outcome.
Let’s get started…
“Let’s walk around and see if we can meet some people.”
It was the start of my freshman year of college. My roommate and I were feeling adventurous as we ventured across campus to explore some of the other dorms.
That is when I saw him.
Nate was leaning out a first floor dorm room window, strumming a guitar (that he didn’t know how to play), and calling out to anyone who walked by to “climb through the window.”
We did it.
Looking back it seems silly.
How did you meet your husband? Oh, well… umm… I climbed through his dorm room window…
There isn’t much to remember about that first brief meeting. The room was kind of dark. The music was loud. There were several guys in there and it seemed like some were exceptionally tall. I felt intimidated and silly. Everyone was pleasant, but it wasn’t a very good atmosphere for getting to know someone new.
We didn’t stay long.
It was a short interaction that seemed meaningless. Yet the crazy thing is that I ended up marrying that terrible guitar playing man. And even more shocking… My roommate married a man that was in that room too!
How did Nate and I go from window climbing to true love? The journey continues next week! Read Chapter 2: IHOP.

Loved part 1 except not enough info, I wanted to keep reading! Did you leave via the window? and I’d love to know what your thoughts were about my handsome son as you left that night…or is that part 2? 🙂
Honestly, I didn’t have many thoughts about Nate from that night. I was just embarrassed that I had actually climbed through the window!
Yes…too short. Not enough! And next week…? Ugh
I hope your “ugh” was an I-can’t-wait-for-next-week type of ugh instead of an I’m-never-coming-back-to-this-blog-again type of ugh. 🙂
I laughed when I saw the picture. I remember that night. I didn’t even remember Kirk (or Nate for that matter) but he remembered us! I guess that’s all that counts.
I love, love, LOVE that we both married men from that room!!!!
definitely in the right place at the right time for you both!
Definitely!
Listening to the “meet Rebecca” episode of Sorta Awesome…I graduated from EMU in 1996. What years were you there? I met my husband there and we’ve just celebrated our 19th!
I’m so curious about which dorm is pictured in the photo…looks south like the room my brother inhabited for a couple years…
Anyway…just wanted to say hi because it’s not everyday you run across someone who went to EMU.
Hey Jill! How fun! I was at EMU from 2000-2004. The window is from Maplewood. Nate and I were just there this month. It was fun to walk around campus again. You should check out the pictures on my Instagram account. You might get a kick out of it.
PS. Your photography on your blog is beautiful!!
Ahh! Its too short. When I was beginning to relax and enjoy, the story was over. I guess I just have to wait for the next post.
I’m glad you are enjoying it! The entire story is already published. Did you see the link at the end of this post for chapter 2?
