Adorable and Affordable Owl Birthday Party

Adorable and Affordable Owl Birthday Party Ideas

Grace turned 8 last year, and we celebrated with an adorable and affordable owl birthday party. (I am a little behind on sharing our birthday party fun here on the blog.) Birthday parties in our house are always land somewhere in between “Pinterest Perfect” and “Minimalist Fun.”

I want our parties to have fun decorations, but I don’t want them to take a lot of time or cost a lot of money. This party definitely took more work than other parties I have put together. There were a few time consuming decorations that I made, but they were not hard to create. They just required some time. Thankfully, the decorations were still very affordable. Adorable and Affordable Owl Birthday Party

For Grace’s owl birthday party, I spent some time browsing Pinterest for inspiration. I found some great ideas here, here, and here. Then I went shopping at Walmart, did some prep by cutting out construction paper shapes I needed, and decorated the day of the party.

Snacks:

  • chips
  • owl shaped veggie tray with dip
  • fruit salad with pineapple owl sitting in a nest – grapevine wreath from Walmart
  • paper products from Walmart
  • pink lemonade with owl cups – regular paper cups with an added owl sticker

Owl Birthday Party Cupcakes

Cake:

  • homemade chocolate cupcakes
  • Pillsbury purple & blue icing
  • Oreo eyes – I twisted apart Oreos, and kept only the sides with the white icing. This turned out to be much harder than expected because most of my Oreos were broken. I went through two packages of Oreos just to get enough eyeballs for this platter.
  • Reese’s Pieces eyes (brown) and beak (orange)

Owl Birthday Party Cupcakes & Table

Table Decorations:

  • I kept things simple by using the cupcakes as the main table decorations.
  • blue plastic table cloth from Walmart
  • Owl Lantern – I made an owl out of construction paper and a paper lantern. I hung this from the light over our table.

Owl Birthday Party Balloons

Living Room:

  • I created several owls out of balloons to hang around the room. This was the most time consuming part of my owl birthday party decorating prep because of all the cutting.
  • They were made out of balloons and construction paper.
  • For each balloon you need two white circles, two smaller black circles, one orange triangle, and two long wing shapes.
  • Add the details to an upside down balloon, so the owls have fat bottoms. The owl details were attached to the balloons with tape.
