Your Green Resource {Benefits of Extended Breastfeeding}

Your Green Resource - Weekly Link-up

Highlights from the past week:

  • I’ve been friends with Lisa since 6th grade.  Last week she stayed with us for a couple days along with her husband and two kids.
  • Easter was awesome.  It felt like it meant more since I was taking extra time this year to explain to Grace what Easter is all about.
  • Noah took his first steps!!

How was your week?  Are you ready for another week of green and natural ideas?

What is “Your Green Resource”?  It’s your chance to share all your green ideas, resources and solutions with ALL of our readers!  That’s right, when you link up on any of our blogs, your idea will get shared with all of the readers at Simply Rebekah and at:

Each week, the six hostesses will each choose a favorite post from the week’s links and pin it to our Your Green Resource Pinterest board!

The post I chose to pin last week was:

Benefits of Extended Breastfeeding

The Benefits of Extended Breastfeeding from Smithspirations

There is a joke (which is not really funny at all) about breastfeeding that goes something like this: When you’ve been breastfeeding your child for 11 months and 29 days people respond with, “That is wonderful!!!!”  When you’ve been breastfeeding for 12 months people respond with, “Umm…  So why haven’t you weaned yet?”

I nursed Grace for well beyond a year.  At times I was embarrassed about it.  People made comments.  I felt judged.  However, the fact is that breastfeeding beyond a year has amazing benefits for you and your baby.  I love this great list of benefits put together by Smithspirations.

Now it’s your turn to share your green living posts with us! Link up your post (not your homepage), old or new, on any of the following topics:

* Real Food Recipes
* Repurposed Projects
* Upcycled Projects
* Organic Gardening Tips
* DIY Natural or Green
* Thrifty Solutions

I’m looking forward to seeing what you’ve got to share this week.

** We would love it if you could spread the word about Your Green Resource to YOUR readers by linking back to one of the six hostesses.  Posts with a link back to Your Green Resource are the posts eligible to be pinned to our Your Green Resource pinboard each week.

  1. So true about breastfeeding, once baby hits 12 months the weaning questions start! My little one is 15 months and I have no weaning plan in place at this point, we’re just taking it day by day!

  2. I support breast feeding after 1 yr old all the way.
    My first 2 kids, i had to stop early but my third i was still breast feeding after he turned 1.
    My first child i had to stop when he was 4 months old because i was expecting my 2nd child and my OB told me i had to stop.
    My 2nd child i stopped at 6 months because he got teeth early and bit really hard.
    With my 3rd, i was blessed to be able to breast feed him longer. I really enjoyed doing it for so long and wish i could have done it longer with my other 2.
    I also got many nasty remarks from people i knew that thought it was weird that i was still doing it. I did not care what other people thought.
    I really think breastfeeding longer has good benefits.
    My 2 oldest get sick a lot and my youngest never gets sick. I really think it is because i breast fed him longer.

    1. Christy, I am so thankful that you were nursing past one year right along with me. I think our family accepted it so well because we were both doing it.
