Life Lessons at the Car Shop

My car was due for an oil change, so Grace & I headed over to our local car shop to get fixed up.  The waiting room isn’t a very exciting place, but Grace couldn’t have been happier.  She was smiling constantly!  Every time someone came in and paid any attention to her, she gave a big smile.  She was smiling at me until she finally gave in to her tiredness and fell asleep in my arms.  Honestly, she couldn’t have been a better baby.  We should hang out at the car shop more often!

While we were waiting, a pervious employee of the shop came in and was chatting with the owner.  The owner asked him if he knew me.  The owner then went on to explain that I was Nate’s wife and that this guy should know who Nate is because he worked on Nate’s car just a couple months ago.  The owner said, “He’s the most polite guy you’ll ever meet.”

Wow.  What a compliment.  Nate is a pretty friendly guy and I know that he can be extremely polite.  However, it got me thinking.  How would the merchants that I come in contact with describe me?  What about my friends and family?  Perhaps I need to take a little more time for the people I care about and make an extra effort to be friendly to the strangers I run into.  Maybe some day someone in a car shop will describe ME as super polite.  Then again, I hope I’m not around my mechanic enough to be described that way.  It would be nice if our cars would behave so our mechanic didn’t even remember us!!!
