Don’t do this.
If you are home alone with your cranky toddler and you’re trying to get supper ready…

Don’t do this.
Spilling rice all over the cabinet and floor will only make your blood pressure rise.

I swept up the mess on the floor and picked off as many pieces from the rug as I could. Finally, I gave up and gave the rug a good shake outside, but I kept thinking…
Is this going to kill the birds?!?!?

LOL I’m pretty sure that it won’t hurt the birds.
You can play the Pollyanna game and be glad that it wasn’t cooked rice.
I’m more surprised that you use white rice than brown.
I guess it’s better to have rice to clean up than something sticky and staining. It’s still a pain, though… especially during toddler melt-down time. As long as it’s not instant rice you shouldn’t have to worry about the birds.
I was out to breakfast with my parents a few years ago, and saw a server tossing rice over the railing on the patio, which was then being eaten by pigeons. I said, “That will expand inside their bodies and kill them.” Meaning, of course, that she should stop. She replied, “Good! I hope it does!” First I was speechless, then I was angry. I don’t remember if I had any more interactions with her but I do remember leaving breakfast early and researching it on the computer. I found several conflicting reports but the one that convinced me asked why rice farmers would have such trouble with birds if the rice killed them… which I thought was a good point! So I have come to the conclusion that rice does not kill birds. You can sleep easy! 😀
oh, this makes me want to cry for you… so sorry about the mess!
Your point of view caught my eye and was very interesting. Thanks. I have a question for you.
