Can Crunchy Mamas Love Disposable Diapers? {giveaway}

Can Crunchy Mamas Love Disposable Diapers?

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of The Honest Company. Can we acknowledge the elephant in the room for a moment?  Yes, I claim to be a green blogger.  No, I don't use cloth diapers.  Can I be a crunchy mama and a lover of disposables??? I have two little ones and when I was pregnant with my first, I did consider cloth diapers.  I had several close girlfriends who were using them and loving them, but I just wasn't convinced cloth diapers were for me.  Our laundry situation was not ideal for cloth diapers. Plus at the time I was able to buy disposables at a really good discount.  Ultimately, I felt like I had a lot of … [Read more...]

Amber Teething Necklace: What is it?
And Does it Really Work?!?

Amber Teething Necklace: What is it? And does it really work?!?

This post and giveaway is sponsored by Spark of Amber. What is an amber teething necklace anyway?  I see them all over my Instagram feed.  It seems like every crunchy mama I know has a Baltic amber necklace around their baby's neck, but what is it??? Baltic Amber contains a naturally occurring anti-inflammatory, which can be absorbed through the skin.  Simply wearing the necklace can help ease teething pain and many other ailments.  That might sound like a hoax, but the world's first medicine all came from plants and minerals.  Why wouldn't it still work today? Is the baby suppose to chew on it?  Nope.  Just wear the necklace.  It … [Read more...]

5 Reasons to Ditch Dryer Sheets & Switch to Wool Dryer Balls

5 Reasons to Ditch Dryer Sheets & Switch to Wool Dryer Balls

This review has been sponsored by Lovesmade.  All opinions are my own. Have you heard of wool dryer balls yet?  I've been using mine for 8 months now and I love them.  They are small balls of wool (about the size of a tennis ball) that I put in the dryer along with my laundry. 5 Reasons to Ditch Dryer Sheets & Switch to Wool Dryer Balls 1) Dryer balls help your dryer run more efficiently.  They fluff up your laundry, prevent clothes from clumping,  increase air circulation, and cut down the amount of time it takes your clothes to dry. Did you know that a dryer requires a ton of electricity? When we were shopping for a house, our … [Read more...]

Confessions of a Cloth Diaper Convert

March 25, 2013 by Rebekah Hoffer Leave a Comment

Confession:  I don't use cloth diapers.  I suppose this really isn't a big secret since I wrote a whole post titled Why I Don't Use Cloth Diapers. I guess you could say that the real confession is that I think I should be using cloth diapers. I firmly believe that cloth is better for the environment, the baby, and the wallet (in the long run).  Yet I still don't do it.  Eh.  I'm not perfect. When I heard that my blogging friend Erin, from The Humbled Homemaker, was writing the ultimate "how to" guide for cloth diapers, I knew that I was not the right person to write a review for her.   ;-) Still, I knew that many of my lovely readers … [Read more...]

Green People Are SO Annoying!

Green People are so Annoying!

Green, crunchy, natural...  Whatever you call them, they are sooooooo annoying sometimes! You know what I mean, right? They can be so obnoxious with their... - whole foods diets and kids that have never touched white flour or white sugar. - thrift store outfit that cost about $0.50 and looks way cooler than anything in my closet. - amber teething necklace wearing & elimination communication trained infants.  Yep.  I just called out the babies. - homemade ketchup, soaked grains, and water kefir.  What the heck is water kefir anyway!?!? - homemade laundry detergent.  I'm sorry, but I simply do NOT believe you when you … [Read more...]

Is Your Rice Toxic?

December 17, 2012 by Rebekah Hoffer 5 Comments

Is Your Rice Toxic?

Did you hear the news about arsenic being found in rice? Arsenic!?!? Obviously, this is not good.  Recently I read the article Arsenic in Your Food by Consumer Reports and it helped explain how my rice could be toxic. What is arsenic? Arsenic is a naturally occurring mineral, but it isn't a safe one!  "It’s a carcinogen known to cause bladder, lung, and skin cancer in people and to increase risks of cardiovascular disease, immunodeficiencies, and type 2 diabetes." - Consumer Reports Why is it in rice? For many, many years arsenic was used in agricultural products.  Those products were banned in the 1980's, but the ground is … [Read more...]
