The First Day of Kindergarten Almost Broke Me

September 5, 2015 by Rebekah Hoffer 15 Comments

One mom's emotional struggle with her daughter's first day of kindergarten.

My precious Grace entered the new world of kindergarten. I thought I was prepared and wouldn't be that emotional about it, but I should have known better. Other people's "first day of school" photos have been making me cry since Grace was a baby. Why did I think it would be different for me when it was my own child??? The stress started for me the night before her first day. We had kindergarten orientation that evening and I was more than annoyed that we were receiving critical information the night before school started. One new piece of information that I found out was that I needed to send a snack with Grace every day. On the drive … [Read more...]

4 Fun Vacation Pranks

July 21, 2015 by Rebekah Hoffer 4 Comments

I can't wait to use these fun vacation pranks on my family!

Last week I was sitting with my toes in the sand and a book on my lap. It was one of the most glorious vacations of my life. Nate and I rented a beach house along with 3 other couples and we all left our children behind. It was glorious. I repeat: it was glorious. Nate and I couldn't pass up the opportunity to have a little harmless fun with some vacation pranks. All it took was a little planning and $5. It was totally worth it. 4 Fun Vacation Pranks 1. Nutella on the Toilet Seat - This vacation prank was 100% Nate. He told me weeks before we left for the beach that he needed to pack Nutella. Multiple times a day he smeared a little … [Read more...]

Happy 3rd Birthday, Noah!

May 11, 2015 by Rebekah Hoffer 3 Comments

Every year I write a letter to my children in honor of their birthday. This is Noah's birthday letter. (This post contains affiliate links.) Happy 3rd Birthday, dear Noah! You were in full blown toddler mode this past year. It has been a delight to watch all the ways you have grown. Highlights from this past year: Throughout this past year you have called me Mama, Mommy, and Mom. You are certainly too little to be calling me Mom, but you hear your sister say it all the time so I can't blame you. ;) There are a couple of things you have stopped doing over this past year. First of all, you've slowed down on your thumb sucking. You … [Read more...]

Threatened by a Telemarketer

March 4, 2015 by Rebekah Hoffer 33 Comments

Telemarketer calls can be annoying, but what about when they are threatening? Have you ever been threatened by a telemarketer?

This post was originally published on Oct. 27, 2010. Just a wild guess, but I doubt this phone call was recorded for quality assurance. RING-RING I answer the phone, "Hello." A woman answers me and explains that she is doing a fire safety survey.  "This is not a sales call." Ok.  Whatever. "Do you have a fire alarm or smoke detector in your home?" "Yes" "Do you have a fire extinguisher in your home?" "No"  Hmm...  Maybe we should buy one of those! "Do you own your home?" "Yes" "In case of an emergency, which of the following is the biggest concern for you: fire in the home, break-in, medical emergency, all … [Read more...]

Productive Mom Day! (A Peek Behind-The-Scenes)

January 23, 2015 by Rebekah Hoffer 17 Comments

This behind-the-scenes peek at a productive mom day is good reminder for all moms!

I had the most productive day ever recently. (Well, it wasn't really that recent. It was back in late November. Sometimes it takes me a looooong time to get my blog posts out of my brain and onto the screen. Still...) It was amazing. I felt like super woman, but then... Well, we'll get to that, but first rejoice with me. The day started with me stuffing letters with a friend. The mailing was for friends of ours that are doing international missions. Letters for missionaries! Just wait. It gets better. I took the kids on a walk up town to see the big Christmas tree that was just put up. (Remember. This was November.) On the way … [Read more...]

Happy 5th Birthday, Grace!

Grace's 5th Birthday

Every year I write a letter to my children in honor of their birthday. This is Grace's 5th birthday letter. My dearest Grace, I am so grateful that I am able to be your mommy. We had a lot of fun this past year and you've grown up in so many ways. Happy 5th Birthday, darling! In this past year... In December we took you to the movie theater for the very first time. We saw Frozen, which ended up being a huge Disney hit. It was also a big hit in our house! Your obsession with the characters and the songs is intense. I can't imagine that you'll ever let it go. (See what I did there?) You love all things girly and anything princess … [Read more...]
