Frugal Photo Friday: Anything Goes!

Frugal Photo Friday

Welcome to Frugal Photo Friday!  All this month I have been partnering with Crystal, from MoneySavingMom.com.  Each Friday we’ve been sharing pictures of simple ways that we save money.  This week’s theme is: Anything Goes!  For our last week, we want to see any kind of savings you have to share.

Last winter Grace was really interested in playing with wooden puzzles.  Instead of buying a bunch of new puzzles for her to explore, I asked my friends if they wanted to do a puzzle swap with me.  Grace loved playing with the new borrowed puzzles and I loved that they were free!

The simplest and hardest way to saving money is to be content with what you already have.  Nate and I accept a lot of hand-me-downs when we got married.  The end table that is serving as our “entertainment center” is one of them.  Is it an impressive piece of furniture?  No.  Does it do the job we need it to do?  Yes.  Did it cost us anything?  No.

Those same questions could be repeated throughout our entire house.  Grace is using plastic milk crates as a book shelf in her room.  I am using plastic milk crates as a night stand next to my bed.  Nate is using an end table that matches our fancy entertainment center (haha!) as his night stand.  We are sharing an old dresser that was in my room when I was little.  In the dining room we turned an old desk into a changing table for downstairs.

Those things aren’t very impressive, but they work!

Head over to Money Saving Mom to see the savings that Crystal is sharing today.

Thank you so much for joining in in this fun series!  I’ve enjoying reading all of your posts and I’ve appreciated your encouraging comments.

Now it is your turn to share the simple ways that you save.  Share your link below or on Twitter and Instagram using the hashtag #FrugalPhotoFriday.  All of the link-up details can be found here.

  1. I’m also a huge fan of hand-me-down furniture. I actually owned my house for several years before I purchased my first piece of furniture – and even then it was just a bookshelf from Target. It did help that it was a tiny place, so it didn’t take much to fill it up! 🙂

  3. great ideas! We, too, have alot of hand me down and second hand furniture. It’s really hard to find new solid wood furniture these days, so I actually prefer used. I did recenly purchase some new book shelves for my boys’ room because I couldn’t find any used ones that were the right size. But then I had to lecture them about how these are not as sturdy as the other shelves so they need to be gentle.

I really like the puzzle swapping idea, too.
