High Chairs Are Gross

I learned an important mommy lesson the other day.

I was cleaning Grace’s high chair when I decided to take a little peak under her seat cover.

Oh.  My.  Word.  What is under there?

*GASP*

Oh that is just gross.  What is that?

It looks like we have some bread, peas, a lima bean, a piece of cheese and many many crumbs of grossness.  Gag me.

Well, it looks like Grace is going to have to say goodbye to her cushy seat from now on.

That’s better!

Please tell me I’m not the only parent who has discovered a high chair landfill.

Update for all those soon-to-be-mamas: I would like to clarify that I really do love this Fisher-Price Space Saving High Chair!

Here is why I recommend it:

  • Convenient – It fits on any regular chair and is small enough to throw into the trunk to take with you.  Plus it is easy to put in storage without taking up much space.
  • Convertible – It can reclines to use with really little ones and converts into a booster seat for bigger kids.  This should be the only high chair we need for Grace.
  • Removable Cover – I really did like the seat cover until Grace started feeding herself.  The cover is also machine washable.  I can’t imagine having a cover that doesn’t come off.  How do you keep that clean??
  • Price – Since it isn’t a “full” high chair, the cost is lower.

  1. Haha! Gross! 🙂

We received the Boon Flair pedestal high chair at our baby shower, so we won’t have to worry about that! No cushy material. Perhaps a tad less comfy for bebe, but no high chair landfills!

    1. What a cool high chair, Kristy! It is so modern looking. I had to do a little Google image search because I’d never heard of it. In my searching I did see that you can buy a pad for it. So there is always the opportunity for your own landfills if you want them. 😉

  2. Barf. Thanks for the pictures. Remind me of this when I have a kid. Ok. I need to go listen to Justin Timberlake and watch Wendy Williams. Bye bye bye.

    1. Dori, I updated this post with reasons why I love this high chair in case you want to file the information away in your brain somewhere. It might be hard to find space with all those awesome Timberlake songs dancing around in there. 🙂

  3. My sister has the same highchair, and we registered for the same one. The cover has been off for quite awhile due to how nasty it was. At least the cover comes off unlike many other frilly ones!

    1. Jen, I can’t imagine having a chair with OUT a removable cover!!! I honestly do love this high chair and I think you will too. I’ve updated this post with reasons why I think it is a good choice for new parents. I didn’t want to scare anyone away with my landfill horror stories!

  4. ok…so i dont have kids. but it does kind of remind me of that moment you decide to lift the couch cushions. i make my husband do it…i cant handle knowing what is under there =p

  5. We have 2 of those chairs and we haven’t had the covers on for months just for that reason. Gross food.

I love the trays though. So easy to clean and they don’t stain.

Oh, and we just went on a 1500 mile road trip and both seats went with. Very helpful at hotels.

  6. No you are not the only one. We had to do the same thing. Just stopped over to say hi cause I saw you were going to Relevant.

  7. I would use the comfy cover if I had one. Just clean under it and put it back. A little extra work for us for a little more comfort for our babies.
