How to Enjoy Fresh Flowers Longer
Happy Valentine’s Day!
Are you one of the lucky ones that is getting flowers today? Â If so, please don’t rub it in.
There are several tricks to keeping fresh cut flowers alive longer. Things like adding flower food to the water, recutting the stems on an angle, blah-blah-blah… Â Those things are all good and helpful, but this isn’t that kind of post.
News Flash: Your flowers will die.
No matter what you do they will start to look like this:

When your flowers are looking extra droopy and some are getting super shriveled, you may be tempted to toss the whole boquet. Â However, I’ve got a little trick for you that will help you maximize your fresh flower enjoyment.
Ladies & Gentelmen, may I present to you… TINY VASES!

Throw out everything that is truly dead. Â Pick out the prettiest of the pathetic ones and feature them in their own seperate vase. Â By letting your flowers “lay” in the water, it helps them rest their little, droopy flower necks and they look nicer longer.

If you don’t have small vases, look around your kitchen for inspiration. Â Here I used a wine glass for a weak-necked rose.

Enjoy your flowers!
Hubby, if you are reading this don’t bother with flowers this year.  I’ll take a milkshake instead.  Or Oreos…  Both would be better!  😀
Do you ever decorate with bud vases? Â If flowers aren’t your thing, what are you hoping to be surprised with for Valentine’s Day this year?

Love this! Totally how I whittle down my bouquets and stretch my fresh flowers!! I keep moving the “still living” ones to smaller containers until there is no longer a need!
Thanks for linking up at our Table!
Happy Valentine’s Day!

I’m glad you like the idea. I personally love a small vase of flowers in the bathroom. It is always a pleasant surprise.
I received a beautiful bouquet this year. I LOVE having fresh flowers around the house. Thanks for the tips.
Emily, fresh flowers are a nice treat. My hubby doesn’t read my blog so I also received some flowers this year. Maybe next year I’ll score some oreos. haha!
I love flowers. I received some roses, and I cut down the stems dramatically from long stem roses to short stemmed and cut at the angle. they turned out beautifully and lasted so much longer AND I used a small vase, this time. actually may not really be a vase but it WORKED! haha they even bloomed. mine never do!
Do you think the shorter stems actually help the flowers last longer? If so, that is just one more reason to use my brilliant idea! haha!
LOL I dunno, but I’m inclined to think so! I’ve cut at a diagonal before without it helping much when long stemmed, so I’d say so. but this batch of flowers, I also put the flower food in before placing flowers in to ensure the food got to all the flowers, and there were fewer flowers than usual also.. could be a number of things that contributed. haha but I also like smaller stemmed better now. they aren’t as heavy so the vase doesn’t fall over, AND it looked prettier with the smaller stems. 🙂 puts more focus on the bud of the flower. 🙂
