Our Cabin Weekend

Things have been a little quiet around here because this past weekend I was on a vacation with my husband’s family.  We went to a large cabin in the mountains.  It was one of the most relaxing vacations of my life!  I think I cried 3 times about having to come home.

Here are some highlights from our vacation:

– No Facebook, Twitter, email or blog and I loved it!

– Watching Grace swim in the pool with her daddy.

– Teaching my nephew how to be a professional marshmallow toaster.

– My brother-in-law and 4 year old nephew over turned their canoe in the lake!  It was a scary moment since we had to call for help to have someone fish them out, but it certainly makes for a great family vacation story.

– The smell of campfires.

– Watching Grace explore the pond, creek and large yard.

– Being able to take a daily nap.  Twice I napped with Grace in my arms and once I napped on a porch swing after reading a book.  Seriously.  Napping on a porch swing!  I wasn’t kidding when I said this was a super relaxing vacation.

– Staying up late after the kids went to bed to reminisce and play games.

– Grace giggling in bed with her 6 year old cousin.

– Experiencing golf ball size hail as a huge storm rolled through.

– Being extremely thankful that supper that night was an “electric free” meal of chef salads since we lost power for 4 hours because of the storm!

– Snakes, frogs, bats, bees and fish.

– Being able to read a 352 page novel in 3 days.

– Cheese bagels with veggie cream cheese, chocolate cake, burgers on the grill, homemade stromboli, smores and candy coated almonds.

– Most of all, being able to relax in the country and soak in the quality family time.

  1. There’s nothing like precious time in the mountains. Sounds like a fun week. Makes me want to plan a trip. Love the pics.

    1. Thanks, Tiffany! I really fell in love with this place. It was so much more relaxing for me than our regular beach vacation. It sounds like you’re a country girl like me. 😉

    1. The book was Summer People by Elin Hilderbrand. It was very good even though I was slightly disappointed in the ending. It was fun to be reading a beach book while in the mountains. It made me feel like I was getting the best of both worlds!

  2. I discovered your blog via twitter and I’ve really enjoyed taking a peek at your life as a mommy. My little guy is only 7 months old so I don’t think he would really care for a vacation like yours, but it sounds heavenly to me!

  3. I really enjoyed that weekend. I had so much fun hanging out with Grace and seeing her have fun with all of my boys.
I really miss the lodge also and want to go back!!!
It was the most relaxing vacation we have ever had. That place was breathtaking. As soon as we pulled up to the place my mouth hung wide open. Lets go back right now Rebekah!!!

    1. Christy, seeing Grace with your boys was a huge highlight for me. I am glad they get along so well. I agree with you; let’s go back TODAY!!

      1. My kids are almost grown, but some of our favorite memories together are from weekends at the cabin. I pray that you and your family will have many more fun weekends together.
