Insane Goals: May Update

Another month has past.  Here is how I did with my list of goals last month.

May Accomplishments:

1.  My cleaning checklist is being ignored for the most part, but it did inspire me to clean the cobwebs out of the corners of my walls and radiators.  Here are before & after shots of my radiators:

2.  Grace and I read through 3 Bible story books and started her original baby Bible again.  I would love to hear your suggestions for toddler appropriate devotionals.

3.  I did a little better with my scheduled night out of the house this month, but it is still lacking the consistentcey that I once enjoyed.  I can’t really complain though since we ended the month with the most relaxing vacation ever.

4.  My garden… Oh where do I even begin.  Let’s just say that it is planted and doing well at the moment.  I just wish I could take more credit for that!   This picture was taken on May 9th soon after it was planted.

5.  I made some small improvements on organizing our basement and Grace’s closet.  My neighbor had a yard sale and I was able to purge some unneeded items.  These areas are no where close to being finished, but it is a step in the right direction.

6.  I sent a lot of cards this month.  Some were in celebration of birthday, some for babies and sadly some were to offer my condolences.

7.  I accomplished the ultimate Faking It Well dinner for our hosting goal this month.  My mother-in-law made a huge lasagna for us that I tucked away into my freezer.  I served that along with specialty bread from the store, salad and a store bought desert I got at the discount grocery store for only $2.00!  I did make the salad dressing, but even that was super simple.  Shhhhh!  I don’t think our guests read my blog.  😉

May Disappointments:

1.  I don’t have much to cross off my list again this month, but most of my energy has been focused on yard work.  We have some flower beds that were out of control.  I’ll be happy when those are finished so I can get back to my list.

2.  All of my personal goals are lacking this month.  I need more prayer in my life.  I need more quality alone time with my husband.  I need to read God’s word.  I need to stop eating so much SUGAR!!

3.  I’ve been trying to drink more water this past month.  Do you have any idea how hard it is to get in the recommended amount?!?!?  I don’t think I accomplished that a single day this month.

4.  The fact that before & after pictures of radiator cobwebs made it under a list of accomplishments on my blog has got to be some kind of disappointment for the month! ha!

Goals for Grace

  • Continue to limit her pacifier use to only in the crib & eventually wean from crib use.
  • Develop a better routine for giving her a daily vitamin & brushing her teeth in the morning.  I just can’t seem to nail down a solid time for this each day.
  • Have Grace drink milk from her sippy cup.  She currently loves drinking water from it, but isn’t impressed with the frozen breast milk I’ve been giving her.
  • Work on her stairs climbing skills so we can get to a place where we feel comfortable with her going up & down the stairs on her own.
  • Have devotions from her “baby” Bible.

Personal & Spiritual Goals

  • Drink more water.
  • Exercise at least a little!
  • Eat more fruit instead of sugar & chocolate.
  • Read daily devotions.
  • Increase personal prayer time & prayer time with Nate.
  • Schedule more time for myself.
  • Schedule monthly date nights with hubby.

Each month I will check in and let you  know how I’m coming on my insanely long list of goals. I hope that with you keeping me accountable that I’ll be able to accomplish great things this year!

  1. I absolutely loved reading your goals! I know that I haven’t gotten in the habit of posting my personal goals on my blog yet, some of them are kind of embarrassing (like finding a partner or getting my readership/comments up for my posts) but I write down my goals each month for me to look at- which, holy cow- I haven’t done June yet! Thanks for inspiring me to get on track!

I know sometimes it can be disappointing to count up what didn’t get crossed off the list… When you have a list of goals and you have a few that didn’t get completed it can be a bit deflating. I know a few times I’ve been down on myself for not doing my goals that required weekly/daily effort to be as consistent as I’d intended when I made the goal, or perhaps I slipped up on my spending. On the other hand, I can think of times in my life where I’ve had no goals at all, and months have passed and I wonder “what did I do all summer?” I think I’ll live with the disappointments in order to have some form of measurable successes. 🙂

    Keep up the good work!

    1. Shannyn, thank you so much for the encouragment!!! I love what you said, “I think I’ll live with the disappointments in order to have some form of measurable successes.” That is so true! I have been disappointed that last two months, but I’m sure I’ve gotten a lot more done than if I never made the goals to begin with!

I’m glad you enjoy reading my goal updates. Sometimes I fear that my readers are bored with them because I usually don’t get many comments. Now I can write them fear free knowing that at least one person is interested! 🙂

I highly recommend posting goals on your blog. This has been the best motivation I’ve ever had. I think it is smart to keep some of your goals private though. I never write about my blogging goals and there are some personal life goals that I just don’t think everyone needs to know about. Go for it!!!

Thanks again for your comment. It really brightened my day!

      1. Ya, I think I’ll be posting my summer goals on the blog! I know I don’t have to post *all* of them, some can be kept private which makes me feel better about it! 🙂 Thanks!

  2. If you did a whole bunch of outside work, that should be added to the list and then crossed off. Then it would be like you were more productive on the list and it would accurately show the amount of work done.
    How does that sound? 🙂

    1. Lisa, that sounds great! You are my kind of list maker. Honestly, there were several more things that I could have put on my master list, but I was worried that it was already so long! You have just inspired me to have an Insane Goals Summer Edition though!

  3. The more I read your crazy to-do list, the more I realize that this style list would probably work better for me. I’ve tried the 3 in 30 for a few months and it just isn’t working for me. Thanks for the inspiration!

    1. I totally respect the wonderful 3 in 30 ladies, but I knew from day one that it just wasn’t for me. Goal setting is such a personal thing. You have to find what fits your personality and your goal needs.

I’ve actually come up with a list of summer goals that I need to post. It is amazing how having these goals has kept me so motivated!!! Good luck to you and your to-do list!

    1. Very interesting article! At this point I only have a few bags of frozen breast milk left. I’ve been using the milk in her cereal a couple times a week. I pretty much gave up on her drinking it out of a cup. I also haven’t tried giving her cows milk in a cup in a very long time. I talked to my pediatrician about it and she isn’t concerned about her not drinking milk. We might start Grace on a supplement. Thanks for the tips!
