Taking My Deck Furniture From Drab to Fab!

For our wedding, Nate & I were given a fun little outdoor table and chair set. It is made out of wood and looks so pretty when we don’t leave it outside all winter long! After a few years of weather damage our table ended up looking like this:
Isn’t this just a beautiful shade of gray??
Thankfully, this is an easy fix. It is especially since I used to work in a woodworking factory. For 3 summers I mastered the fine art of sanding wood. For my little table & chairs set I just borrowed my brother-in-law’s hand sander and went to town!
After a few minutes of sanding, I’ve got myself a pretty impressive before and after photo!
Now that’s more like it!
Add a coat of Teak Oil and…
It’s like brand new!
Here is one more before & after photo for you:
This was an easy, frugal deck furniture makeover. I’ll take an hour of sanding over spending $$$ on new furniture any day! Plus being able to impress Nate with my power tool skills was a great added bonus. *wink*
What are your tips for a frugal deck furniture makeover?

Great job, Rebekah! You’re definitely more handy than I am :).
Trust me, Miranda, this is where my handiness stops!
Wow – you certainly are an interesting person! You’ve done so much and have so many unique experiences! The furniture is beautiful! We just refurbished my grandmother’s porch furniture from the 1950’s. Silly me didn’t think to get a before picture. Boo.
Aw, geez Audra. All I did was sand some furniture. haha! I’m glad I’m entertaining someone though!!
Since I’ve started blogging, I’ve gotten a little picture crazy. I find myself taking tons of “before” photos. Sadly, most of these projects never get far enough for an “after” photo!
awesome job rebekah! I love rehab before and after stuff! 🙂
Doriana, if you like that kind of stuff then you definitely need to read this blog: http://impatientlyprayingforpatience.blogspot.com
She takes the ugliest stuff and turns it into this awesome furniture that I want in my home. I never usually do these kinds of projects, but I think her writing style is really fun and that is what has gotten me hooked on her blog.
It looks beautiful and you did a wonderful job! Is it odd that I find the weathered wood beautiful too, though? 😉 I think it comes from years of living right on the Atlantic ocean… lots of wood ends up “gray”.
Of course you would like the gray. Of course you don’t watch reality TV. Of course you drink your coffee black. 😉
Just kidding around. You know I love ya.
What a stunning change with such simple steps! I’m going to have to come to you for some sanding advice next time I want to refinish some furniture.
Just call me the Sand Master! 😉
i just love before and after photos! you did a great job, they look great! don’t you love doing things yourself and all the satisfaction that comes from it?!
Thanks, Stacey. I think you are right. The best part of the whole thing is that I did it! 🙂
Wow, your before and after pics are gorgeous! You are much more handy than me. I am still trying to figure out why my toilet keeps running, lol. You go girl!
Jim
Thanks, Jim! I don’t usually consider myself so handy. 🙂
