This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Holmes Products. All opinions are 100% mine. Winter heating bills can be brutal! This year I'm trying a few new things to help me stay warm without spending a fortune. Take a peek at the fun video I put together to learn all about what I'm doing, including my new Holmes Smart Console Heater. 7 Ways to Stay Warm Without Spending a Fortune (video highlights) 1. Clean Your Oven - Ovens get a ga-trillion degrees (???) with the self cleaning feature. 2. Hot Drinks - Besides my beloved coffee, chai tea is my favorite. 3. Open Your Oven - After you are done with the oven, crack open the door … [Read more...]
How to Make Homemade Bone Broth
Last year I started to make my own chicken and turkey broth for the very first time. When Thanksgiving came around, I snatched up the turkey bones and made so much broth that I ran out of containers. I literally started to give it away to anyone that would take it. If I can do it, you can to! What is the difference between broth and stock? I've read that stock is made from the bones and broth is made from the meat. I've also read that broth is seasoned and stock is not. I don't think it matters what you call it, but for this post I'm calling it broth. Why make your own bone broth? The number one reason to make your own broth is so that … [Read more...]
7 Ways to Save Money on Fast Food
"What time do you want me to come back home?" I asked. "8:00." "Really??? Okay!" I darted out the door with the blessing of my husband and headed to the library to get some much needed work done. Nate had graciously blessed me with several hours of alone time out of the house and I was more than willing to take him up on it. When supper time rolled around I debated going home for a free meal for about 0.2 seconds. I'm a frugal gal, but I didn't want to risk getting sucked back into the chaos of little children. I ventured off to Five Guys Burgers & Fries. I picked Five Guys because it serves hamburgers made out of actual … [Read more...]

I was having supper at my in-law's house and I needed to charge my phone while I was there. I was heading out for the evening straight from their house and I wanted to be sure my cell phone wouldn't die on me. My in-laws love to tease me and didn't miss the opportunity to make fun of me for mooching off of them so I could save money on my own electric bill. Their joke got me thinking though. There are tons of ways to save money by mooching off your in-laws! 14 Ways to Save Money … [Read more...]
Painting Just For The Sake of Painting
This post contains affiliate links. Please tell me that I'm not the only mom who struggles to do organized crafts with her kids. We do a lot of drawing, coloring, singing, dancing, and reading in this house, but step-by-step crafts just aren't happening. I like to think of myself as an artistic woman. I studied theater and video production in college. I loved taking art and photography classes. You would think that I would plan elaborate crafts for my kids all year long, but instead I cringe when doing finger paint and have very few crafts saved on my Pinterest boards. Despite my lame attempts at crafts in this house, we bought … [Read more...]
5 Cheap Meal Ideas for a Tight Grocery Budget
This winter has been out of control! We have had tons of snow here in Pennsylvania. Plus we can't forget about the epic "polar vortex" that has been bringing bone chilling temperatures. All of this cold weather has put a significant dent in our bank account. Nate and I have been buying oil to heat our home at an alarming rate. It. is. so. expensive. We are getting by (and we are so thankful for all that we do have!), but things are tight. There isn't much extra laying around these days. To help our dwindling bank account get through another week until payday, Nate and I came up with a cheap meal plan for the week. I rarely share … [Read more...]
