Frugal Photo Friday: Food and Fun
Welcome to Frugal Photo Friday! This month I am partnering with Crystal, from MoneySavingMom.com. Each Friday we are sharing pictures of simple ways that we save money. This week’s themes are food and fun.
I love to shop at discount grocery stores. I love it even more than using coupons. (Shhh! Don’t tell Crystal!) The soup pictured above was only $0.69 each.
I usually can’t find everything I need off my grocery list, but I make it a priority to visit the discount store first before going to my regular store. Some of my favorite things to get at the discount store are: cereal, cheese, frozen vegetables, and yogurt. I love buying yogurt for just $0.25 each!
I skip the meat from time to time. The cheapest meals I make are black beans with rice and curried lentils. These meals are both high in protein, which makes skipping the meat even easier.
I use gift cards to save on our fun and entertainment. Each Christmas I ask for gift cards for date nights, movie tickets, and more. Last Christmas we were given a membership to a children’s play center. Grace has loved going and it didn’t cost us a thing! I love, love, love these kinds of consumable gifts.
Head over to Money Saving Mom to see the savings that Crystal is sharing today.
Now it is your turn to share the simple ways that you save. Share your link below or on Twitter and Instagram using the hashtag #FrugalPhotoFriday. All of the link-up details and themes for each week can be found here.
I also use to buy the kids family memberships to children’s museums and zoos with the Christmas money family would send. I use to make a point to take the kids photo’s when we were at the zoo or the museum that loved ones had paid for us to attend and made sure to send that photo and a thank you to the gift giver. I also told the kids, as we were leaving “wasn’t that a great gift”. Both helped them to remember gifts are more than just things, sometimes they are fond memories.
I love that you stressed to your kids that those experiences were gifts! What a great lesson to teach your kids.
I also love to shop our local discount food store. I find great produce deals there.
So I can’t link up but I love reading blogs **coughthisonecoughsixsistersstuffcough** and then TAKING THE ADVICE!!! I made tons of freezer meals with meats that were on sale and veggies that are I season and on my church’s sharing table. Saved money AND planned ahead to save time! What could be better!
Lisa, I am jealous of your church’s sharing table!! How did that work? Are you able to take anything on the table or are you suppose to provide something for the table before you take something?
It is for people to bring surplus from their garden to share. Instead of letting it go to waste, they pass it on. There are usually lots of zucchini 🙂
Thanks for hosting this! I also love our local discount grocery store, I’ve found so many great deals there over the past couple years. It’s another great way to fit in some “special items” while still sticking to a budget.
Becky, I do exactly the same thing. I tend to save all my fun food splurges for things that I find at the discount store. It is a fun (and cheap!) way to try new products.
Thanks for hosting this each week. It really is the simple things that add up. We’re in the beginning process right now of making Christmas gifts for friends and family. So that’s what I posted. But we also do things like have homemade pizza and movie night every Friday night. Simple but so very fun.
I love gift card and membership gifts too!! This year we’re getting our kids a membership to the zoo!! We did it a couple years ago and loved it! It’s so nice to be able to go for just a little bit and explore one section of the zoo and not feel like you have to explore the whole thing to get your money’s worth from a one-day pass.
