Losing that “Good Mom” Feeling

It was 11:00 AM, a little too soon for lunch. I was hungry. I decided to be a “good mom” and enjoy a snack of carrots and dip with Grace.
We went outside and sat on the front porch to enjoy our healthy snack. Oh what a good mom I was. Fresh air and she was eating a vegetable!
“Grace, what are you doing? No, no… You need to swallow the carrots.”
Grace continued to fill her mouth with chewed carrots that she refused to swallow. Orange carrot drool started running down the front of her shirt. Her new shirt.
Fast forward several minutes. The carrots have all been chewed and swallowed.
“Grace, what are you doing?”
She was crawling along our dusty porch and rubbing her hands along the ground. It appeared to be a game to see just how dirty she could get.
My freshly bathed daughter was now covered in carrot juice drool and dust. My “good mom” vibes were fading fast.
Annoyed Mom
Tired Mom
Losing-My-Patience Mom
Each of those titles better described my mood than “good mom.” And then…
“Grace, what are you doing? Ok. 1, 2, 3!!”
Just like that a new game was created. Over and over again Grace and I counted to three. Each time we said, “Three!” she sprinted into my open arms as fast as her toddler legs could carry her.
A game of hugging mom? That is just what this “good mom” needed when the good feelings were wearing thin.
How do you (or your little ones!) overcome losing that “good mom” feeling?

I over come losing that “good mom” feeling by getting another cup of coffee… sometimes a hug just doesn’t cut it around here. 🙂
I hear ya! It certainly helped that I got about 12. 🙂
oh man! I’m waiting to see what everyone else says, cuz i loose it… like every day! 🙁
Thanks for sharing!
Oh I love that! Way to turn it around Mom! 🙂 I know when my patience meter hits the top it’s either STOP or do something about it fast. Good thinking!
Dawn, I would love to take credit for my mood change, but Grace’s hugging game was all her idea. Lucky me. 🙂
I don’t think the title of your article matches the content lol. Just kidding, mainly because I had some doubts after reading the article.
