Frugal Photo Friday: Kids and Bath & Beauty

Frugal Photo Friday

Welcome to Frugal Photo Friday!  This month I am partnering with Crystal, from MoneySavingMom.com.  Each Friday we are sharing pictures of simple ways that we save money.  This week’s themes are kids and bath & beauty.

Playing with Puzzles at the Library

We visit the library on a regular basis.  We try to take advantage of all the things they have to offer: books, DVDs, games, story time, and more!

Enjoying a Ride at the Fair

I videotape memorable moments.  Grace loves watching videos of herself on the computer!  I take 30-60 second videos all the time.  Going on rides at the county fair wasn’t the cheapest way to have fun, but for FREE Grace has been able to enjoy watching herself again and again and again!

Broken Eye Shadow

I use my bath & beauty products until they are gone.  I swish water in my shampoo bottles to get out the last little bit.  I’ve used shampoo that I didn’t really like as shaving cream instead of throwing it away.  I cut open “empty” containers of face wash to get more out.  I even use broken eye shadow instead of replacing it.

Head over to Money Saving Mom to see the savings that Crystal is sharing today.

Now it is your turn to share the simple ways that you save.  Share your link below or on Twitter and Instagram using the hashtag #FrugalPhotoFriday.  All of the link-up details and themes for each week can be found here.

  1. I have heard that you can use a small amount of Vaseline to squish back together your broken compact makeup. You could google it to be certain but I know it can be done. That way you won’t loose your crumbs, and your makeup will go even further!

  2. I love the short video idea. We take lots of pics but not very many videos. I’ll have to change that. Thanks for hosting this, I can’t wait to see what everyone else comes up with.

That video idea is priceless. My kids are older but I think they still secretly like to watch themselves have fun like that. When I record them I only think of it from my point of view, I like to watch my kids later but I never thought they would like it.

And yes, the library. My daughter reads books so fast that I refuse to buy her books. We go to the library instead. The only time she gets new books in birthdays and Christmas. Special occasions.

    Love reading the tips!

Allie, sometimes I wonder if my daughter is obsessed. :) She likes watching herself on video more than cartoons. Of course she is three. So maybe she’ll get over that someday.

Just today she was watching a short clip of everyone singing “Happy Birthday” to her. She thanked me again and again for her birthday. It was so sweet and so fun to see her enjoying it over and over.

You should have a family movie night and bust out all your TRUE family videos. I bet your kids would love it!

Thanks for the link-up! I will admit – I don’t wear makeup much. I hate to spend money on it. HATE it. I STILL have makeup that I wore from my wedding. That was TWELVE years ago! :)

I keep my make up pretty simple, so it seems to last longer. I’ve also learned that going with the cheap stuff isn’t the smartest choice. My eye shadow from a more high end place lasts much longer than drug store stuff. But if you don’t use any then you are saving even more! haha!

Oh, I hate when my eye shadow or blush breaks up. So I’m guilty of throwing mine out when that happens. Love the idea to use shampoo you don’t like as shaving cream. :-) My hubby drives my bonkers when he refuses to throw out the toothpaste when we’ve squeezed every drop we can out of it. He’s certain if we sit on the tube, roll it another notch, or jump up and down on it we can get one more brushing out of it. Perhaps I should hand him a pair of scissors next time and let him cut it open. Lol! I love him dearly, but I’ll never forget the first year of marriage when I witnessed him pull the old toothpaste tube out of the trash right in front of me, and there was a brand new one on the bathroom counter! :-)

I have done something similar with shampoo, only I have used it as body wash. The toothpaste is ME! I am the one who takes the “leftover” toothpaste and deodorant to get the last bit out. :)

  11. We put water into bottles to get out a little more too.
