A Documentary Worth A Watch: Planet Earth

September 20, 2010 by Rebekah Hoffer 2 Comments

I love to travel.  L-O-V-E it!  God has blessed me with some amazing trips.  I love meeting new people and seeing how they live.  I love taking in the scenery and appreciating the unique landscapes.  I love that feeling of knowing that I’m standing in a place that I may never ever stand again.  The thing that I really love about the documentary series Planet Earth is that it takes all those things I love about traveling to the extreme. While watching Planet Earth you will see things that you would never be able to see for yourself in real life.  You’ll see things that the vast majority of the world will never see for themselves!  Planet … [Read more...]

3 Blogs Worth Reading

September 12, 2010 by Rebekah Hoffer Leave a Comment

There are a lot of blogs out there that regularly post links to interesting articles or blog posts that they have been reading online.  Honestly, I rarely read what they recommend and I don't plan to start to have a regular recommended reading series on my blog.  However, there are some great things out there right now that I think are worth mentioning. Another New Season's Series Plan to EnJOY Christmas :: This blog is written by a personal friend of mine, Donna.  She got this great idea to start thinking about Christmas NOW so that she can enjoy herself more when it truly is "tis season!"  I think this is just genius.  Donna will be … [Read more...]

Blog Reader 101

May 12, 2010 by Rebekah Hoffer Leave a Comment

I started using a blog reader just a few months ago.  My friend Donna suggested that I use one because, “It will save you so much time!”  I thought, “Yeah, right!”  Well…yeah… she WAS right! What is a blog reader? A blog reader is a free online service that you can use to organize how you read online news and blogs.  Instead of going to several different sites each day, you can subscribe to those sites via your blog reader and read all of your new content on that one website.  It is kind of like going to Wal-mart instead of going to the hardware store, clothing store, grocery store and toy store.  One stop shopping! Why do I need a blog … [Read more...]

A Documentary Worth A Watch: The Bridge

February 25, 2010 by Rebekah Hoffer 2 Comments

The Bridge The Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco is the single most popular suicide destination in the world.  In the riveting documentary, The Bridge, a film crew lead by Eric Steel set up their cameras along the neighboring banks and kept watch on the bridge day after day for an entire year.  Their goal was to capture the moments on film as these troubled souls ended their lives.  The Bridge takes a very honest look at suicide, the lives of the victims and the families that they chose to leave behind. When renting the DVD, the interviews with the camera crew in the special features is worth watching also.  They explore their … [Read more...]

A Documentary Worth A Watch: God Grew Tired of Us

January 11, 2010 by Rebekah Hoffer 2 Comments

God Grew Tired of Us Imagine never using electricity and then being given your own apartment in the USA.  What questions would you have?  How many things would be completely foreign to you?    Perhaps one of my most favorite documentaries of all time, God Grew Tired of Us features the journey of several men from Sudan to the United States.  Thankfully these gentlemen have people to guide them.  Their first night in their apartment they are shown how to turn on lights, how to use the bathroom and are introduced to potato chips for the very first time. You’ll fall in love with each man as he tries to find his place in his new world.  … [Read more...]

A Documentary Worth A Watch: Sound & Fury

December 28, 2009 by Rebekah Hoffer Leave a Comment

I love to watch movies and one of my favorite genres is documentary films.  Documentaries today are much more interesting than those old war films we used to watch in history class!  People often ask me for documentary suggestions so from time to time I'll be posting mini reviews of some of my favorites.  All of the documentaries that I'll be writing about can be found on Netflix.  Check your local library for these titles also because I found many of them there as well as on Netflix. Sound & Fury Two brothers struggle with how to deal with the option of “curing” their children from deafness in Sound & Fury.  Sparks fly as the … [Read more...]
