Cut Cleaning Scrubbers in Half to Save Money

Cut Cleaning Scrubbers in Half to Save Money

I save money by cutting my magic erasers, scrubbing pads, and sponges in half.  This is a simple tip, but it goes along with the fundamental frugal rule: only use what you truly need.

Things like magic erasers, scrubbing pads, and sponges often get gross before they get worn out.  They also usually come in a sizer bigger than what you truly need for a single job.

By cutting these cleaning products in half I can instantly double my inventory, only use what I truly need, and keep the other half nice for another day.

Do you cut your cleaning products in half?  What else do you cut in half to save money?

  1. This is a great tip! I hadn’t thought of doing either until someone else told me they do it. One of those “why didn’t I think of that” moments! But I take it a step further–I don’t just cut them in half–I use the Norwex equvilent of Magic Eraser and I cut mine into 1/8. A relatively cheap cleaner just got a whole lot cheaper!

      1. They are $6 for a pack of two. I don’t know how that compares to Magic Eraser–it’s been so long since I’ve bought them. The Norwex works just as well without the harsh chemicals–so it’s worth the money to me.

        1. I never really thought about bad chemicals being in magic erasers. Of course bad chemicals seem to be in everything so I don’t know why I didn’t think about it. 🙁

  2. When I used dryer sheets, I cut them in half (or even in fourths in the summer when it was humid). Now I use dryer balls instead.

    1. Gail, I just started using dryer balls too. How many do you use in a large load? I have three, but I’m thinking that I should get more.

  3. We cut dryer sheets in half sometimes and also Magic Erasers. If you have 2 kids you can even cut colored pencils in half and then they are the right size for little fingers too! I know people that water down milk when it’s about 1/2 full…. I’ve never done that but I bet no one would notice if I did!

    1. I love the idea of breaking colored pencils in half!!!! Do you just snap them???

I am not a skim milk fan, so there won’t be any watered down milk in my house! Haha!
