A Day in the Life… 2019

Every year on January 18th I take one picture every hour from the moment I wake up until I go to bed that night. I end up taking pictures of the ordinary – supper prep, cranky kids, trips the library, a cup of coffee, my computer screen.
These ordinary pictures are actually quite extraordinary. They are my everyday. They are my here and my now. They are a day in my life.
I’ve given myself an amazing gift to be able to look back at a typical day from the past years and see the changes from year to year. The gift of being able to see the extraordinary in my everyday routine because the truth is simple: today’s routine will not be the same for long. My children will grow. My jobs will change. These routines will not remain.

A Day in the Life of Rebekah – January 18, 2019

9:30 AM – Our morning is starting off slow thanks to a 2-hour snow delay and little ones sleeping in. I’m thankful for the extra sleep after a late night at a fundraiser event for Nate’s work. The evidence of the night out is still on the table: babysitter instructions & glittery fun.

10:30 AM – After our 2-hour delay, it is almost time for Grace (3rd grade) and Noah (1st grade) to go to school.

11:30 AM – Shopping at our favorite discount grocery store. I will never grow tired of pictures of my little ones sitting in grocery carts.

12:30 PM – Isaac (age 2) sits in his super saucer while he watches videos. Usually he does this when I take a shower. Today I am putting away groceries, getting his lunch ready, and cleaning up the kitchen.

1:30 PM – Isaac is napping, and I am enjoying some alone time. Sometimes I use this time to work on Simply Rebekah or the Sorta Awesome podcast. Other times I soak in the downtime. Today I am eating a snacky lunch and watching the latest Grey’s Anatomy.

2:30 PM – I am continuing to lay on the couch during Isaac’s nap. Honestly, I’m not feeling too great. The rest is good for me. However, a picture of me working on my phone or watching a YouTube video isn’t super interesting. Instead I am capturing a glimpse at our current living room.
The snowflakes and nativity are still up from Christmas. The TV stand is new, and I am obsessed with it.
The small basketball and activity table are evidence of Isaac. Plus the golden shoe is Grace’s, but Isaac is in love with them.
You can also see my ever growing collection of Chatbooks.

3:30 PM – Grace and Noah are home from school. Grace wore this necklace today. My mom gave it to me years ago, and recently I gave it to Grace when she was anxious about going to school. I told her that when she misses me, she can touch the necklace and remember how much I love her.

4:30 PM – Grace and Noah are obsessed with Minecraft right now.

5:30 PM – Haircuts were long overdue. Isaac sat in the chair by himself for the first time instead of sitting on my lap.

6:30 PM – Tacos and oranges for supper.

7:30 PM – Every “A Day in the Life” project needs a selfie! Here is today’s with my new-ish glasses, day 2 curly hair, and stuffed up nose.

8:30 PM – We have been working through a church-wide devotional this week. Tonight Grace as God for help with multiplication facts and going to the Olympics (for running). Noah asked for help opening LEGO boxes and wrapping presents.

9:30 PM – I have surrendered to my cold, and retreated to my bed.
Thank you for following along on my 9th annual “A Day in the Life” project! Do you have any suggestions on how I celebrate my 10th year next year to make it extra special?
